Rusty Money – From Poe to Whoa

We all get into the custom car show scene for different reasons. Take, for instance, Chris Wilson. His dad always built, bought, and traded cars and trucks his whole life. Every weekend was spent in the garage, at junkyards, cruise-ins, and shows. Chris considers himself a long-time hot-rodder and mini-trucker. It was only natural that Chris would combine both in his 1998 Chevy S-10. While working on a 1963 Impala wagon, he purchased the S-10 from Darrell and Nikki Poe as a project. It became a $2,000 project that got out of hand, as you can see.

On the Ground

With the help of Darrell Poe Jr., Chris began the process of getting the frame on the ground. The stock A-arms were modified, and they installed Slam Specialties bags in the front. Moving to the rear, they installed a C-notch with a 4- link and Slam Specialties bags.

KING’S AUTO UPHOLSTERY HANDLED THE INTERIOR. HOURS OF WORK WENT INTO SHAPING THE SEATS, COVERING THEM WITH BRIGHT RED LEATHER, AND ADDING DOUBLE STITCH DIAMOND INSERTS.

Air management consists of dual black 480 compressors with a Criss manifold block. Fox Racing shocks were added. Everything was powdercoated gloss black. A set of Lexani LX-20 with 245-35-20 tires were installed to complete the rolling chassis.

Door panels were recovered to match, and they added ’40 Ford door handles. To step it up even more, a ’59 Chevy Impala dash with Ididit steering column were and painted to match.

Smoothed and Striped

Chris knew the look he wanted. He shaved the door handles and emblems. He then sent the truck to Nathan Thomas to give it the black base with patina hook. Next up was David Richards to do the gold leaf, gray and red door logo, and pinstriping. He then added billet grille and Bow Tie. Still not satisfied, Chris had John Shark bead roll the bed and paint it bright red to match the interior. Finally, a vintage Coca Cola cooler was added in the bed.

Next-Level Interior

The interior was taken to another level. King’s Auto Upholstery was commissioned to handle the red leather interior. Starting with the bench seat, tons of work went into reshaping the seat and the covering with the bright red leather and double stitch diamond inserts.

Door panels were recovered to match, and they added ’40 Ford door handles. To step it up even more, a ’59 Chevy Impala dash with Ididit steering column were and painted to match. The sound system consists of Pioneer equipment in form of head unit, amp,10-inch subs, and more.

Subtle changes to the four-banger motor consist of a Chevy Cavalier head, intake, pacesetter healer, and a cold air intake. What sets the motor up for show appeal is tons of Hydro dipping. Finishing up the show appeal, Chris did a wire tuck, relocated the computer, and battery.
