When the significant other says safety issues need to be addressed, they get addressed. Although Steve Bohte was fine driving around his 1955 F-100 as a cruiser, she was not. The brakes needed work, and it was time to get them fixed.

Being an Axalta paint representative, Steve knows a lot of custom shops, and one he knew well was Rock-It Hot Rods in Amite, Louisiana. Owner Michael Dupuy and Steve discussed putting Wilwood brakes on his F-100 to solve the stopping issues.

Plan in Motion

They agreed to a plan, and the crew completely disassembled truck. They scrapped the old frame and installed a new Scott’s Hot Rods Superslam chassis with Accuair CVT airbag system and Wilwood brakes on the chassis along with Ridetech airbags on all four corners. Because it’s mostly a bare chassis, they fabricated a custom core support, body, and cab mounts. Finishing off the chassis, a set of American Racing UN 407 in size of 20×9 on the front and 20×14 on the rear surrounded by Micky Thompson rubber.

To achieve the look Steve wanted, every square inch of the body was touched in some way.

To propel “DA Brake Job” down the road destroying the Micky Thompson rubber is a 2017 Ford Coyote Performance Crate motor and a Ford Crate 6R80 automatic transmission. To help the Coyote breathe is a set of Patriot headers attached to Borla Atak custom stainless exhaust.

Nothing Untouched

To achieve the look Steve wanted, every square inch of the body was touched in some way. The Rock-It crew narrowed and lowered the wheelwells. They shaved the drip rails and added Kindigit door handles and a roll pan. They recessed the grille and modified it to accept a lighted blue Ford oval. In the bed, mahogany wood lines the floor to cover up the custom hatch that opens electronically to expose the custom work on the frame. The running boards were stretched and extended up to the body. Both front and rear fenders were modified to accommodate the massive wheels.

Once all the body mods were complete, Steve chose Axalta Cromax custom mix he named “Amore’ Honey Effect” for the color. Shannon Alexander laid down a flawless paint job with tons of clear. Once dry, it was wet sanded and buffed to perfection.

Custom Interior

The quality of this build would not be complete without a full custom interior. Wesley Cato at Anything Auto & Upholstery covered the Buick LaCrosse bucket seats in distressed leather and Ultrasuede with Krist Kustoms seat medallions. He covered the remaining interior pieces with distressed leather. He also constructed a center console and covered it to match. They purchased door panels and a headliner from Mid-Fifty Ford parts and covered them to match, too. The dash was painted to match the outside of the truck and Dakota Digital gauges were used for instrument cluster. Mercedes carpet finishes off the interior.
