Robert and Joanna Mayes are the owners of this beautiful 1956 F-100. Robert is a successful businessman with several cars in his collection, and he decided he wanted to build a truck. After looking for the right one, Robert and Joanna came across this ’56 in 2017 in El Paso, Texas. The truck was in decent shape and completely original. Robert purchased it and delivered it to Francisco Murillo at Metal Brothers Hot Rods in Theodore, Alabama.

Metal Brothers Hot Rods, one of the premier hotrod builders in the south, knew right where to start. The crew ordered a Roadster Shop frame with a 4-inch stretched wheelbase. Francisco knew he was going to put a big motor in this truck, so they installed a Ford 9-inch rear end with a 3.25 ratio. To stop all the horsepower, a set of 13-inch Wilwood brakes were installed. For the proper stance, Ridetech shocks with a set of 19 and 20-inch HRBB model HR 99 fit the bill.

Now that the frame was finished, it was time to move onto the powerplant. It wouldn’t be a custom Ford without having a GEN 2 Coyote engine, with a PBH pulley system and a 6R80 transmission. To let this powerful motor breathe, they built a custom stainless-steel exhaust with headers all the way back.

On the exterior, they began by chopping the top 1.5 inches. To give it an even sportier look, a 1.5-inch body drop was performed. Keeping with the theme, they pie cut the hood to make the truck even sleeker. Moving onto the lower valance, it was filled and a custom grille was made for it. The bed was double walled for a smoother look, and the lines were changed to follow cab better. The flush tailgate with custom Ford lettering were the perfect finishing touch to the extensively modified bed.

Next on the list was to cut and tuck the rear bumper for a cleaner, smoother look. Moving on from there, they widened the front fenders 2.5 inches and the rears fenders 3.5 inches. To finish off the overall wider look of the truck, a set of running boards was made. Leaving nothing untouched, the Metal Brothers crew added a flush mount windshield and back glass that’s one of a kind. The firewall and inner fenders were modified, as well as the core support, which even received a custom radiator cap.

Francisco knew that Robert wanted a custom green color, so he began by spraying several test panels before he came up with the custom green you see here. Once the body was completely smooth, Francisco laid down the custom green with tons of clear and cut and buffed it to perfection.

The bed has seen quite a bit of custom metalwork, but the flawless custom hardwood floor also grabs its fair share of attention.

The interior had to be one of a kind and fit the truck just right. The truck was shipped to OZ Custom Upholstery in Columbus, Kansas, where they used vintage oak leather to cover the custom-made Snowden seats and door panels. A custom center console and headliner were also made and covered to match. Dakota Digital HDX gauges with a 14-inch Billet Specialties Prism help Robert take command of the ’56, and to finish up the interior, a Kicker Stereo with Bluetooth capabilities was installed.

20-inch Hot Rods by Boyd HR-99 wheels take up all available real estate out back, with 19-inchers filling up the front.
