The “SEMA Crunch”—you hear about it every year, but it really is a thing. With a set deadline in early November, builders around the country are forced to have their project builds completed and buttoned up somewhere around Halloween to ensure timely delivery to the big show in Las Vegas. Oscar Leon found himself in the deep end while getting his C10 ready to debut at the 2018 SEMA show and experienced for himself the excruciating pressure of the “crunch.”
A group of talented artists came together to paint this classic mini-truck during the Take Over Event at Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia. The process was on full display while custom paint classes were being taught just next to the booth. The event was four days long and, in the end, the graphics were complete, but the truck had to travel back to Matt Hutcheson’s shop in Southern California for the final touches.
Thinking about starting a new project truck this spring? The May issue of Street Trucks has all the inspiration you need! You’ll see pages of truck photos from both the F-100 Supernationals and Layin’ at the Lake that’ll be sure to spark your imagination. In our tech department, we lay out some quick and easy suspension and utility upgrades for your ’22 Toyota Tacoma. We also report on the latest with project Burnadebt, our ’59 Chevy Apache. We also spotlight five unique builds with great stories, including Herschel, our cover truck, that’s a 1959 Chevy with a mysterious history; a ’11 Chevy Tahoe with an insane paint job; a recognizable ’04 Chevy 3500 dually; a performance-driven ’93 Isuzu pickup; and a ’58 Chevy Apache, winner of the 2019 Chevrolet SEMA Truck of the Year Award. We also answer the top 10 questions people have about lowered trucks. And, as always, we have the newest products, industry news, upcoming events, and more!
How many times has Melesa Farmer heard, “Is that your boyfriend’s truck?” We’re guessing that she hears it, along with other similar comments, from people all the time. Sure, it probably gets annoying, but since the truck belongs to her and not her boyfriend, she’s learned to brush it off. It’s just one of those things—most people don’t expect a female to own a ‘bagged and bodied C10, or any other type of customized truck for that matter.
Film Crew Anthony Crucial Gonzales and NO REGRETS take us to the country music capital of the West Coast—Bakersfield, California—to check out the Mini-Truck Showdown at the Kern County Fairgrounds.
