Purpose-Built ’56 Chevy Task Force
After some well-earned experience, Rob McPherson, director of business development at QA1, has some advice: “You can do everything yourself when building a truck and have some satis faction when it’s done, or you can spend money somewhere to get it done faster,” he says. While Rob’s engineering background did help, he still had a lot to learn to take his ’56 Chevy truck across the finish line. Read on to learn about all the new things Rob had to learn to build this bad boy.
Keith “Tank” Tacti’s latest ride was predictable because he’s always been a Chevy guy and there was something about the Chevy Crew Cab body style that drew him to it like a magnet. After considerable research, he finally found this 2010 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, selling his RAM truck to get it. Previously owned, the Chevy already had some custom touches that sweet-ened the deal but there was plenty still to be done.
Recently, I was contacted by a buddy of mine who told me about a honey hole in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. He had been picking there for years, and one day, he wanted to take me there so I could make a video and show the world what the town was hiding. Needless to say, I said, “Let’s ride!” You gotta see this Ford collection to believe it.
Finding the “perfect” project truck is tough, now more so than ever. If a truck is priced too high, you either gotta buck up or pass the opportunity on to the next guy. It’s another thing, however, if a truck is too far-gone and needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. Unless you possess the know-how to do all of that, it’s a job that will most likely take you forever and a month to complete. What’s a fella to do in a situation hinging on a simple yes or no answer?
