Right-Hand Drive, Bagged and Bodied P’Up
We all enter the scene in many different ways. Some grow up in a family building cars and trucks, and some, like Scott Harms, are introduced by friends. Back in 1992, Scott’s pal took him for a ride in a lowered Mazda truck, and Scott became instantly hooked. Years later and many cars and trucks in between, Scott came across a fully built Isuzu P’up that he always wanted. He had the support of his wife, Jessica, who said, “Go get it before it’s gone.”
As the show season wound down last year, Stuart Daigle and his crew were just winding up for the best show in Louisiana: Last Resort! Celebrating its 15th year, the October event was one of the biggest yet, logging more than 480 registrations and over 1,000 spectators. Attendees and participants alike enjoyed a weekend of fun, from live music and a pizza eating contest to trick-or-treating, adult-themed Halloween costumes, and more!
Our poorly running small-block Chevy 350 is missing a spark, and the wires are in pretty rough shape. A quick tune-up on a classic driver generally makes for a fun and relaxing weekend with some buddies (if you’re into that sort of thing). After some basic cost comparisons and a run-down of the actual advantages, it was pretty clear to us that the Street/Strip D.U.I. distributor kit is the only option that will meet our demands and expectations. We want our trucks to start strong the first time and run great every time, so we placed our order online and told some friends to come hang out on the weekend.
Ever since he was a kid, Jeffrey Melder had a love for customizing 1968-’72 trucks. After getting married and relocating to Oakdale, Louisiana, Jeffrey built a shop on his property to work on his vehicles. Once the shop was constructed, Jeffrey was on the prowl for something that both fit into the classic truck niche but was also something easily to handle his custom desires. He found this ’70 Chevy C10 at a local pawn shop and convinced the owner to sell, and the rest is history!
With so many shows all over the country, trying to add a new one to the calendar is something most people are hesitant to do but not the crew from Showdown in the Valley. Shane, Michael, and Chris have been attending truck shows forever, so they weren’t new to how it all worked when they decided to plan a brand new show in Maggie Valley, NC. But instead of giving themselves a year or so to organize, they jumped in with all four wheels and hosted and killer event with just months to prepare.
We have some fun plans with this ’67 F-100, and power is one of them. With that in mind, we elected to go for a new 9-inch GearFX driveline housing with 35 spline axles, 3:70 gears, and a Detroit locker. To hold that monster of a rearend in place, we have the QA1 rear suspension. Just like up front, we went with a matching set of Baer Brakes Pro+ 6-piston setup. One thing we did a little differently than a usual QA1 install is that we welded the QA1 axle parts to the axle instead of bolting them on.
