This year’s Battle in Bama show was a spectacular event that showcased some of the most impressive trucks in the country. Our Street Trucks May 2023 cover truck, Cuttingedge Hotrods’ C10 build is nothing but out of the ordinary. Owner Cameron Bishop wanted something different. He always loved Group 5 special-production race cars of the ’70s and ’80s and wondered what a classic truck would look like if Group 5 had a truck class. He picked up a 1972 Chevrolet C10 and began brainstorming about what he could do to make the styles work together.
Lucio Perez of Greensboro, NC, can relate making the hard decision to pass a project on for financial reasons. Some periods of life just aren’t conducive to funding an expensive hobby. “Back in early July of 2014, I decided to sell a full build project that I had simply become burnt out on,” he says. “My wife and I were also expecting a newborn son, so it was also a matter of finding a vehicle that was more family/budget appropriate. We needed something that could accommodate a car seat but was still a ‘truck’—a Chevy, of course.”
