C10 Coilover Conversion with Rack-and-Pinion Steering!
Our ’68 Chevy C10 is in amazing shape after having performance upgrades installed more than 10 years ago. It looks great cruising down the road, but if you’re sitting inside the cab, you’d understand why we’re redoing the suspension. Modern technology and intelligent engineers have upped the level of products available for these classic icons. We turned to QA1 Motor-sports with an eye directly on the company’s new front crossmember suspension. This kit con-verts our truck to rack-and-pinion steering along with coilovers all the way around, giving it a squatted look along with a very high-performing feel.
Did you attend the Lowdown Roundup last June? If not, make plans to go to this year’s show June 2-4 at the Des Moines, Iowa, Water Works Park! In the meantime, check out our coverage of last year’s show. It brought the heat to the Midwest, showcasing a new flavor of custom rides that locals had not seen before. Starting off Friday with an already promising turnout, flow off, and afterparty at the hotel, we knew fairly quickly that the staff’s hard work was paying off—and the forecast called for killer rides and good times all weekend.
As the world becomes more environmentally conscious, the popularity of electric vehicles continues to rise. While the electric car market has been growing steadily over the past few years, electric pickup trucks have been slow to enter the market. However, with several major automakers announcing plans to release all-electric pickup trucks in 2023 (and even more, such as the RAM Revolution, on the horizon), it’s clear that the electric pickup truck market is finally beginning to heat up, and there will be several great ones to choose from. Let’s take a closer look at each one available as of this writing.
A LS-Powered ’72 Chevy C10 Cheyenne Named Low Lion
To fund his wedding to wife Missy, Matt Criswell agreed to sell his custom Chevy S10—but not before the two made a deal. “The deal I made with the wife was I would buy another project someday.” Well, this 1972 Chevrolet C10 Cheyenne is it! Matt is the owner of the Carolina Truck Shop, and it’s a great place to build his C10. “Carolina Truck Shop started from the Up-state SC GM Truck Club,” he says. “A bunch of us had been inspired by what the C10 club was doing out west, and we wanted to create the same kind of club in South Carolina. After a while people were asking Paul Arthur and me where to go for parts and have those parts installed. There wasn’t really a great local resource for parts, so we decided to open our own shop. The rest is history.”
We have a highboy, and we want better brakes. That is what started the crew at PRD Design down the path of developing a brake upgrade kit. Overall, the current market for these F-250s is made up of part swaps for later-model OEM axles, like the disc brake Dana 44s from ’76-’79 F-250 trucks. These options work, but they require a ton of work, still leaving you with 1970s technology. There must be something else available. PRD Design couldn’t find it, so they decid-ed to make it. So after R&D and a few sets of prototype brackets, the brake kit was complete.
